Diploma thesis deals with evaluation of immigration into Benelux countries, namely Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. Thesis deals with the issue of granting visas, residence permits, work permits, asylum, citizenship and the issue of illegal immigration. Based on statistical data is made analysis of historical development of migration, number of immigrants and their source countries, residence permits, employment, applications for citizenship, asylum applications, illegal immigration and the forecast of future trends in the number of immigrants from the selected source countries.
Population development of NUTS 2 regions in Benelux countries

Population development of NUTS 2 regions in countries of the Benelux Abstract The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the population development of NUTS 2 regions in countries of Benelux in the period between 1990 and 2010. The analysis is based on monitoring of development selected indicators of age structure, mortality and fertility. The development of variability of these indicators is also observed. The goal of this study is also to find groups of NUTS 2 regions similar in values of selected demographic variables. Borders of these groups of regions are compared with national and cultural borders. For this purpose, the cluster analysis was conducted for input values of the selected variables at the beginning and at the end of the analysed period. A part of this work is devoted to outline the main characteristics of population development of the Benelux countries in the period between 1950 and 2010. Luxembourg in international relations

This thesis deals with the general topic of small states in international relations based on a case study of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The case study analyses the behaviour of Luxembourg as a small state in international relations from 1839 up to 1960s. It concentrates on seven main periods and phases in the history of this small country - membership in the German Customs Union as a member and as a non-member of the German Confederation, the neutralisation of Luxembourg, WWI and the violation of neutrality, membership in the Belgium-Luxembourg economic union, WWII, and the membership in the Benelux Union and the European Communities. The main aim of this thesis is to come to a conclusion, which aspects of the behaviour of Luxembourg can be described as universal behaviour patterns of small states and which aspects were specific only to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Práce hodnotí vývoj hospodářské unie Beneluxu a její postavení v rámci Evropské unie. Popisuje základní principy fungování unie Beneluxu a její orgány. Věnuje se také zahraničnímu obchodu členských zemí, tedy Belgie, Nizozemí a Lucemburska, ve snaze zhodnotit jeho význam pro spolupráci těchto zemí.
